“Mental toughness can just be grinding through a period, not giving up”
Kelowna Minor Hockey is getting its head in the game.
In partnership with Third Space Mind, the association is putting together a Mental Training Fund to support athletes and coaches.
The money will pay for mental health workshops to educate players, parents and coaches.
"The vision was to create something for minor hockey, to start at the grassroots, and empower players, coaches, teams, and families from a very practical standpoint.” said Therapist Barb Egan.
As a former player and coach, Egan is a strong advocate for mental health training as a tool to achieve optimal on-ice performance.

On Wednesday night, the club will host a fundraiser with former NHL players Josh Gorges, Wade Redden and Quintin Laing. The trio will sit down to talk about the role of mental training in hockey.
"We've all used mental training to further our careers and in dealing with some of the pressures that come along with the game." said Laing, who is also the Head Coach of Kelowna Minor Hockey.
"It's showing how important mental health and mental training is to any athlete."
