Sand and sandbags available starting March 25th
For property owners in flood prone areas around the entral Okanagan, it's time to think flood preparation.
Monday, March 25th in West Kelowna, the city will provide sand and sandbags for residents to take precautions.
West Kelowna Communications Supervisor Kirsten Jones says property owners are also reminded to keep their catch basins and culverts clear of debris.
"These are the culverts and catch basins adjacent to their properties that can get clogged up with leaves and debris especially as the melt happens. So we're asking residents to clear them out because we want the water to flow where it should," says Jones.
West Kelowna will begin staging supplies of sand and sandbags at the following locations:
- Beachnut Park – corner of George Court and Whitworth Road
- Hitcher Park – corner of Hitcher and Jennens Roads
- Gates Road – corner of Gates and Glenrosa Roads
- Kinsmen Park – 3170 Shannon Lake Road
- Westlake Road – adjacent to 1805 Westlake Road/Rose Valley Fire Hall
- Casa Loma – 2606 Casa Loma Road
- Falcon Park – Adjacent to 1339 Green Bay Road
- Sternwheeler Park – adjacent to 1649 Pritchard Drive
Please note, these supplies are for flood preparation only. Do not take sand or sandbags for any other reason.
