Lake Country police say suspicious encounter was a misunderstanding

RCMP remind locals to report suspicious activity promptly

It seems a creepy encounter in Lake Country on Sunday night was actually just a misunderstanding.

On Monday, local RCMP called on the public to help identify a man who had followed and photographed a woman walking alone the night before.

After the story was reported by local media, the suspect man came forward to police to explain his actions.

"It seems as though the local resident was also suspicious of our complainant and decided to obtain her photograph for identity purposes." said Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey.

After further investigation, police do not believe his actions were criminal. Although they do wish he had come forward sooner.

“RCMP encourage Lake Country residents to remain vigilant, and continue to remind them to be mindful of suspicious activities and persons in their neighbourhoods,” said O'Donaghey.

“However, we ask that you report those encounters to police at your earliest convenience, especially if you have decided to capture photos of possible persons of interest to police. This will allow our investigators to determine whether or not a crime has in fact been committed.”
