City looks at new ways of reducing energy.
Cities in BC are on a mission to reduce their carbon footprints.
The incentive is a refund on the carbon tax they pay.
Kelowna is hard at it. You've heard how all the street lamps have been replaced with low energy LED's.
"We reduced our electricity consumption by about 4 and a half million kilowatt hours per year, which is about the same as powering over 400 homes annually. We have an ongoing optimization program with our buildings and with our water and waste treatment systems, so we are always optimizing our systems looking for ways to reducing energy".
Bryden Tolleson is the city Corporate Energy Manager.
He says they've made great progress in reducing energy consumption through a variety of programs before they begin to explore options such as solar power and electric vehicles.
