New cash for cycling paths

237 thousand dollars to fund protected bike lanes from Sutherland to Springfield Road.

It was a good day at City Hall.

Word came down from the province that grant money for cycling path infrastructure was in the bank.

BikeBC has given just over 237 thousand dollars to fund protected bike lanes from Sutherland Avenue to Springfield Road.

Active Transportation coordinator Matt Worona says that project is already underway.

"It means that the next project is just that much closer. We can use the city money and move it forward and take the provincial dollars and keep them for that project we are already building currently".

Worona says Bike to Work Week is a great time to have the grant happen.

The city has been keeping bike counts for about 4 years on existing bike paths and this week..they're recording record usage.
