Car destroyed in Rutland arson

RCMP says it appears targeted

The police investigation into an early morning vehicle fire continues, and trained fire investigators confirm the blaze was the act of an arsonist.

On June 24, 2019 shortly after 1 a.m., Kelowna RCMP were called upon to assist the Kelowna Fire Department who were responding to a report of a vehicle fire in the 300-block of Pearson Road in Rutland. Police and fire crews arrived on scene to find a red Mini Cooper fully engulfed in flames.

“A Kelowna RCMP fire investigator has since conducted an examination of the charred vehicle and has now deemed the incident as an act of arson,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Our investigators have reason to believe that the event was targeted.”

Police are now searching for a suspect whose image was captured on CCTV cameras in the area. The unidentified suspect is described as approximately 6 feet tall, heavier set, seen wearing a light coloured hoodie with the hood up, light coloured pants and a pair of dark running shoes at the time of the incident.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net
