Gordon Drive multi-family
A proposal for a 4 1/2-storey, 40-unit apartment building that provides a mix of one- and two- bedroom units and studios at the corner of Gordon Drive and Lawson Avenue was considered by Council. Council gave first reading to the proposed rezoning and forwarded the project to a future public hearing.
Rutland multi-family
Council issued a development permit and final adoption of the rezoning property for a nine-unit townhome project on Kneller Road. The rezoning application was considered at public hearing and received second and third reading on February 12, 2019. The plans call for units in three buildings, with each unit having a double-car garage and a private backyard.
Creative sector survey
Council heard the results of an economic impact survey focused on the creative sector in the city. The survey found there are almost 3,800 jobs in the sector, compared to 1,200 in 2009. Film and new media account for almost 1,200 of the full-time positions, with the next most robust sectors being commercial arts (578 jobs), performing arts (416) and cultural facilities (270). There are 626 creative sector establishments in 2018, almost double that of 10 years ago. Read the full results here.
