Wildfire west of Osoyoos grows

The blaze in the area of Richter Mountain nearly doubled in size overnight

The BC Wildfire Service is sending more personnel to tackle an out of control fire west of Osoyoos.

The blaze in the area of Richter Mountain nearly doubled in size overnight from 25 hectares to 40.

According to Fire Information Officer Nicole Bonnet, 40 more firefighters are being sent out today to stop the spread.

“We leave a fire in the status of ‘out of control’ until it’s not anticipated to get any bigger than its current perimeter.” said Bonnet.

“The resources that we have out on-site will be adequate for the fire behaviour and anticipated conditions for the day”

The fire was sparked by lightning during Tuesday night's thunderstorm.

Currently no homes or buildings are being threatened by the flames.
