Emergency calls prompted a dynamic response from police in Kelowna’s downtown core Monday
Multiple 911 emergency calls prompted a dynamic response from police in Kelowna’s downtown core Monday afternoon.
Shortly before 2:00 PM, RCMP received multiple reports of a suspicious male, with his face obstructed, believed to be in possession of a firearm in the area of Bernard Avenue and Mill Street.
Police were told by multiple callers that the unknown male suspect was seen carrying what appeared to be a sawed off long barreled firearm wrapped in fabric, with a handkerchief over his face.
“Concerned for public and police safety, multiple front line officers descended on Kerry Park where they took multiple individuals into custody, without incident, during a dynamic high risk arrest,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
As a result of their investigation police confirmed that the item in the individual’s possession was not a firearm, but rather an item that appears to have been altered to look like a firearm.
One individual remains in police custody, pending further investigation. The rest were released unconditionally, without charge.
