Cab driver charged with sexual assault

The driver allegedly assaulted a passenger after dropping her off.

A Kelowna taxi driver has been charged with sexual assault following a Kelowna RCMP investigation.

In late May, police received a report alleging the driver of a taxi had sexually assaulted a passenger. Police were told that the alleged victim was outside the taxi cab at her final destination in Kelowna when the alleged assault took place, during the early morning hours of May 26th.

A suspect was arrested 4 days later at the Kelowna RCMP Detachment and released on strict conditions pending a first court appearance.

The suspect’s chauffeurs permit was surrendered and seized by police.

Now the BC Prosecution Service has approved a single sexual assault charge against 37-year-old Gagandeep Singh Sidhu.

Sidhu made his first appearance in Kelowna Law Courts on July 4th. His next court date is set for Thursday July 25th.
