The federal election campaign is clearly underway
Federal Conservative Foreign Affairs Critic Erin O'Toole was in the AM 1150 studio in conversation with host Phil Johnson.
They talked about China and the struggling relationship ignited by the arrest of Huawei Executive Meng Wanzhou.
O'Toole says the Liberal government is not doing enough.
"The more we've upset the Phillipines, China, India, UAE, all of these countries, that's fewer options we've had on the world stage. It's also fewer friends. We've really had nobody speaking up for Canada because we have all these alienated relationships now."
O'Toole says we should be standing up for our interests and the Trudeau government has so far not done that effectively.
With no resolution in sight on the Meng Wanzhou file, O'Toole says Canadian farmers and business will continue to pay the price whenever China decides to block a Canadian import.
