Special meeting of council set for Wednesday
Kelowna City Council chambers will no doubt be full tomorrow afternoon at 4. That's when Mayor Basran and councillors meet to specifically discuss the highly controversial supportive housing facility slated for McCurdy Road in Rutland.
A massive peitition opposing the plan is speaking loudly. Petition organizer Audra Boudreau will be there tomorrow.
"We are thankful and people are feeling somewhat validated in that the city is actually hearing them and I think that it was the collective voices of 12,984 people on a petition that finally got their attention."
Boudreau and the petition supporters want to see McCurdy become low income housing for families or seniors rather than a harm reduction facility for the homeless and drug addicts.
Mayor Basran has revealed that he is in discussions with the BC Housing Minister but he hasn't given details.
Audra Boudreau is cautiously optimistic that the city will make the changes the community wants for their neighbourhood. If not she says, the protest campaign will only grow.
