Cherry growers get marketing dollars from Ottawa

The money will be well spent marketing BC cherries abroad

The federal government is helping to promote BC cherry exports to foreign markets.

The Ministry of Agriculture has granted $240,000 to the BC Cherry Growers Association to promote home-grown cherries abroad.

The money comes at a turbulent time for cherry farmers as unpredictable weather has taken a toll on this year's crop.

"There's a lot of unknowns. You have to be ready for anything" said Association President Sukhpal Bal. "We thought we'd seen it all but mother nature reminds us she's in charge and we just have to try our best."

The money will be well spent marketing BC cherries in countries like Japan and South Korea.

"This funding allows us to promote ourselves in these markets and show the world that we have the best cherries around."
