Happy Anniversary Prospera Place

Make it 20 years and many memories at the home of the Kelowna Rockets

It's was a big day at Prospera Place.

The building celebrates its 20th birthday on Wednesday.

It was August 28, 1999 when the home of the home of the Kelowna Rockets officially opened its doors to the public.

Dave Dakers of RG Properties says the building showed its worth in May of 2004, when the community gathered for the Memorial Cup.

"The environment and feeling that went on in 2004, you wouldn't have had that in a bigger building. The building was full to the rafters. You couldn't move.  It was an exciting event from the people that were just there. The hockey was almost secondary"

Back in 1999, Prospera Place which was named Skyreach Place at the time, was built for 24 million dollars.

To replace the building today would cost about 80 million.
