Almost a year after an E. coli outbreak prompted a blanket ban on romaine lettuce, health officials in the U.S are again telling people to avoid romaine lettuce grown in the Salinas, California area.
At least 40 people in 16 states and possibly one Canadian are thought to have become sick from the tainted lettuce.
Although an outbreak is not occurring in Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed that romaine lettuce from the affected areas is imported to Canada at this time of year
Meanwhile, The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says some Bonduelle brand salads are being recalled, also due to possible E. coli contamination.
The products include Bonduelle's Caesar Salad with Chicken and Bacon, Chef Inspired Salad with Turkey and Ham, Cobb Salad with Turkey and Bacon and Santa Fe Style Salad with Chicken.
So far there have been no reports of any illnesses linked to those products.
