Spiritleaf West Kelowna opens its doors on the weekend
Spiritleaf West Kelowna, the first retail cannabis store in the city, opens it's doors Saturday, December 28.
"We're super excited," said owner Mike Adams. "It's been a long journey, and we're ready to open up."
This is Adams' first foray into retail cannabis. His background is in martial arts.
"I fought professional mixed martial arts for fifteen years," said Adams. "I've been running a martial arts club for pretty much my entire adult life. Through some injuries in training, I was introduced to medical cannabis. It did wonders for my injuries. When this new industry opened up, I jumped at the chance to get involved."
Of course you can't just open a cannabis store without education and support.
"Initially what I did to prep myself was I studied what was going on in Colorado," said Adams. "They were the leading state that got into cannabis. I took some of their online courses. Then I was introduced to Spiritleaf and took some of their courses as well. Any opportunity I've had where I can educate myself, I've taken it."
If you're new to cannabis products and know absolutely nothing about the industry, Adams and his staff will be more than happy to help educate you.
"There are so many products now," he said. "There's so much more research that's been put behind these products. As a cannabis retailer I feel we can definitely guide you on the right path as far as different products and how to consume them."
As far as the store goes Adams said it's not huge, but added they're all about the customer experience.
"It's very cozy and the Spiritleaf brand is really high end," he said. "Some of the new products coming out are the Cannabis 2.0, which includes some of the vape products, some of the edibles. A lot of people are excited about seeing these products. We've placed our orders and we should have those products in store by December 31st."
Spiritleaf West Kelowna opens at 9a.m. Saturday. They'll have free swag bags for the first fifty people through the door. The store is located at Unit 104-1195 Industrial Road.
