The Christie Mountain Wildfire is estimated to be 1,000 hectares in size, and is 0% contained. The fire is 6 km north of Okanagan Falls on the east side of Skaha Lake.
21 BC Wildfire Service personnel will remain on site over night. The firefighters are continuing to construct control lines. Structure Protection will remain on site over night as well. Additional resources will arrive throughout the day tomorrow.

The City of Penticton has issued an Evacuation Alert for 3,669 properties located in the south east portion of the City. The alert area includes properties within the following street boundaries.
• Lakeside Rd.
• South Main
• Main Street
• Industrial/Okanagan Avenue
• Alison St.
• Penticton Creek
• Syer Rd.

This Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare residents, businesses and visitors to evacuate their premises or property in the event an Evacuation Order is issued.
The City of Penticton is working with the RDOS EOC and BC Wildfire to assess the situation. Property owners will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order, however residents may receive limited notice due to changing conditions. Residents and property owners are strongly advised to take proactive measures to prepare for an Evacuation Order.
In the event an evacuation order is given residents must:
Leave the area immediately.
Follow the directions of emergency responders and travel the designated or safest route available.
Register as an evacuee at 199 Ellis Street, Penticton, BC.
COVID-19 protocols are in place. If you have symptoms or are self-isolating, please do not attend the reception centre. Call 8-1-1 for direction.
Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
Close all windows and doors
Please store your Fire Arms in accordance with Section 118 of the Fire Arms Act.
Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
Gather your family and if you have room, take a neighbor or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles then you have to.
Take critical items only if they are immediately available:
Government issued ID
Medications
Eyeglasses
Valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information)
Immediate care needs for dependents
Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
Pet owners and hobby farmers with concerns for their animals:
Animal Emergency Response Team (ALERT) can help, call (250) 809 – 7152
Farmers who require assistance call the RDOS EOC.
Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.

Update at 9:30 PM:
Evacuation alerts have been issued from the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen for 116 civic addresses.
This follows evacuation orders for more than 300 homes in Heritage Hills due to the Christie Mountain wildfire.
Addresses affected are on Carmi Road, Garnett Way, Joy Road, Panorama Ridge Road, and Saliken Road.
Individual properties on Beaverdell Road, Daloc Road, and Eastside Road as well as Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park is also on alert.
Update at 8:40 PM:
The BC Wildfire Dashboard lists the fire at an approximate 500 hectares in size.
Erick Thompson, an information officer with the RDOS Emergency Operations Centre, says "we do know that there are some properties that may be under evacuation alert in the area. That's not official yet, but it's important for anybody in that area to be prepared to evacuate on short notice."
Update at 6:40 PM: Now 250 hectares in size.
Fire crews are busy this evening battling a significant forest fire.
It's approximately 6 kilometres north of Ok Falls.
Fire crews are attacking it by air and on the ground.
An evacuation order has been issued for 319 properties in the area.
Erick Thompson is an information officer with the RDOS Emergency Operations Centre.
"This fire is in the Heritage Hills area which is to the east of Skaha Lake. It goes down to the south portion of McLean Creek Road and that is where the evacuation order extends too and that is 319 homes."
The fire broke out quickly.
"There was very little time for people to leave. We were preparing an evacuation order and as that was happening, a tactical evacuation was happening. So no, residents didn't have a lot of time as this was a fast moving fire," Thompson added.
Again the cause is not known.

A significant forest fire in the South Okanagan.
It's located about 6 kilometres north of Ok Falls.
It is estimated at 10 hectares in size.
319 properties are on evacuation order.
Laura Kowalchuk is watching the fire at Skaha Beach in Penticton.
"It's to my left, above the marina. It has moved north now. The wind has died down. It is behind the mountains now. We can sometimes see flames but there is an incredible amount of smoke".
The smoke can be seen all the way in West Kelowna.
The BC Wildfire Service has crews on the scene fighting the blaze by air.
We will have more information as it becomes available.
