Early morning fire at downtown shelter

A Sunday morning fire forced dozens from their beds at a downtown shelter.

Fire teams were called at around 4:30 a.m. to the Cornerstone shelter on Leon Avenue.

The Kelowna Fire Department said crews entered and finished extinguishing the fire. The fire was contained to the ground floor of the building.

No one was taken to hospital.

Cornerstone provides 80 shelter beds, has since 2017. It is operated by the John Howard Society.
