The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is hosting the Wonders of Water event on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mission Creek Regional Park. This free, fun-filled event is designed to inspire visitors of all ages about the importance of clean, healthy water systems while providing an educational day out for families and all community members.
“We’re inviting the public to help us release Kokanee salmon fry into the spawning channel,” says Jill Hamilton, Supervisor, RDCO Parks Visitor Services and Community Relations. “It’s an exciting chance to see the salmon’s life cycle up close and learn more about salmon in the Okanagan.”
Join in and be inspired with educational opportunities about water. Visitors will learn about the critical role of clean water in our ecosystems and discover how everyone can contribute to protecting safe water systems in our region. Visitors are encouraged to explore park trails, engage in a variety of hands-on activities and interactive stations designed to educate and entertain. The event also offers a chance to connect with community partners who are dedicated to environmental conservation and education including:
- BC Métis Federation – Conservation Department
- Let’s Talk Science – University of British Columbia
- Maskwa Environmental Consulting
- Okanagan Regional Library
- Regional Parks Interpretation Team
- WWEST (Westcoast Women in Engineering, Science and Technology) along with iSTAND (Integrative STEM Team Advancing Network of Diversity)
