Kelowna Dragon Spirit Tai Chi Association Shines at 43rd Can-Am International Martial Arts Championships

The Kelowna Dragon Spirit Tai Chi Association led Team Kelowna to an outstanding performance at the 43rd Canadian-American International Martial Arts Championships in Vancouver, taking home 5 trophies and 24 gold medals. The team was coached by instructors Linda Jia and Ray Qin and stood out among hundreds of competitors from across North America.

The Can-Am International Martial Arts Championships, founded in 1979, is one of Canada’s most established and well-respected martial arts tournaments. The 2025 event featured a wide range of disciplines including Tai Chi hand forms, weapons, push hands, and more.

Team Kelowna demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication, particularly in Tai Chi events, proudly representing the Okanagan community on the international stage. Website: Can-Am International Martial Arts Championships – A Journey to Excellence.

“We’re extremely proud of our athletes,” said Team Lead Linda Jia. “Their commitment and hard work led to an unforgettable achievement.”

This success marks a significant milestone for Kelowna’s martial arts community and reflects the growing strength of traditional practices in the region.

To continue promoting wellness and cultural connection through Tai Chi, The Kelowna Dragon Spirit Tai Chi Association and the OCCA Communities Association will co-host free Tai Chi workshops every Sunday starting July 6 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Kelowna City Park, running until August 31. The workshops are free and open to the public, welcoming all ages and experience levels to join.
