The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society took to the streets of Kelowna this morning (May 5, 2025) to march in solidarity and remembrance of missing and murdered indigenous women, girls and 2 spirited people.
Hundreds joined the society, marching from their 442 Leon Avenue location to the Kelowna Law Courts at 1355 Water Street.
The crowd stopped on the steps of the Law Courts as elders shared stories and brough awareness to the cause.
On the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society Facebook event posting it read:
“Inspired by Metis artist Jamie Black and his REDress project, Red Dress Day is a powerful reminder of the disproportionate violence that Indigenous women and gender-diverse individuals face in Canada. Our goal with our march is to honor survivors and victims, to raise awareness, and to advocate for calls for justice and policy changes.”
The first red dress day took place in 2010.
