Breathe easier: build your own free air purifier

Wildfire smoke has become increasingly familiar in the summer months, affecting indoor air quality as well as the health of our most vulnerable residents. To help people prepare for emergencies and improve their indoor air quality during wildfire events, the City of Kelowna, in collaboration with Simon Fraser University and Interior Health, are offering several free workshops where residents can build their own air purifiers.
The workshops are open to all Kelowna residents – however seniors, those with pre-existing respiratory issues, new and expecting mothers, and people living in older buildings where air filtration may not be as effective, are especially encouraged to attend.
Event details are as follows and registration is required as space is limited.

The workshops aim to provide affordable and accessible solutions for improving indoor air quality as well as education about the risks of wildfire smoke and how to reduce exposure. Participants will learn to construct simple, effective air filters using readily available materials like box fans and furnace filters which can help remove smoke, allergens and pathogens from indoor air.
