Power knocked out during ATM theft in Salmon Arm

A brazen robbery of an ATM being ripped out of a gas station with a chain is under investigation in Salmon Arm.

Salmon Arm RCMP said at around 4 a.m. on Monday, officers were called to the corner of 10 Street SW and the Trans-Canada for a downed power line and report of a break-in.

Mounties discovered that during the theft, the chain got caught on a power pole, ripping it out of the ground and knocking out power to nearly 200 customers for 9 hours.

A vehicle and parts of an ATM were found near Yankee Flats later that morning.

The suspects remain at large and anyone with information is being asked to come forward.
