Salmon Arm RCMP April 30 to May 13 2025, Calls for service: 298

May 3

Foothill Rd SW: At 11:30pm Salmon Arm RCMP received a report of a possible impaired rider on a yellow motorcycle. The complainant had helped the rider lift his motorcycle that was laying in the middle of the Foothill Rd SW. One member was already in the area and quickly located a yellow Honda motorcycle with minor damage and the rider stopped on the side of the road. Police smelled a strong odour of alcohol coming from the rider and conducted a breath demand. The rider blew two fail readings. The rider was prohibited from driving for 90 days, and the motorcycle was impounded for 30 days. The matter was further referred to RoadSafetyBC.

May 8

Ross St: At 6:30pm a complainant reported a man causing a disturbance near the fountain on Ross St. Police attended and observed a grossly intoxicated 72-year-old man yelling as loud as he could. The man had soiled himself and had littered the area with a number of empty beer cans he had consumed. A passerby informed police they witnessed the man throwing things at pedestrians. The man was arrested for being intoxicated in public as he was clearly unable to care for himself. The man was lodged in cells overnight to safely sober up, and was later issued a violation ticket for being intoxicated in a public place under the liquor control and licensing act.

May 9

Notch Hill Rd: At 1pm a witness reported a black Ford Focus had just gone off the road and into the ditch on Notch Hill Rd near Trans Canada Hwy. The witness was able to stay on scene and support the police investigation for impaired driving. Salmon Arm RCMP arrived on scene and conducted a breath demand with the 58-year-old male driver and only occupant, who was uninjured from the collision. The driver informed police I’m gonna fail, and indeed blew a fail, declining his right to a second test. The vehicle was also found to have expired insurance. The driver was issued a violation ticket for no insurance in the amount of $598, he was prohibited from driving for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for 30 days. The matter was further referred to RoadSafetyBC.

May 10

Blind Bay: A woman reported she had been the victim of a computer fraud. The woman informed police she was contacted by someone named James who claimed to be from Norton Anti-Virus. After some conversation, the man convinced the victim to go to the bank to withdraw $9000 and deposit it into a Bitcoin account. The file remains under further investigation.

May 11

Narcisse St: At 1am a 29-year-old man reported his vehicle was stolen sometime in the previous four hours. The man believed the key had fallen out of his pocket, and confirmed he did not give anyone permission to drive his vehicle. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle. At 2pm Salmon Arm RCMP located the vehicle parked, with the owner inside. Police spoke with the owner who confirmed the vehicle had not been stolen, but he had gotten too drunk and forgot where he parked it.
