Salmon Arm’s giant treble clef aims for national victory

People in Salmon Arm are hoping to hit the right note and gain national recognition for a giant treble clef downtown.

Municipal World Magazine is hosting its annual Canadian Municipal Landmark contest, where communities vie for the title of the country’s top local landmark.

The 45 foot tall clef is made of steel and was installed in 2019. A description online said the “soaring musical symbol is more than a work of art – it’s a tribute to unity, creativity, and patriotism.” Embedded in the sculpture is the opening bar of ‘O Canada’.

Voting is open online until August 15.

Last year, Prince George’s beloved Mr. PG claimed the crown.

The clef is up against several other famous landmarks, like Canada’s Longest Pier in White Rock, Eddie the Squirrel in Edson, Alta., the World’s Biggest Beaver in Beaverlodge, Alta., the Big Lamp in Donalda, and the Giant Toonie in Trent Hills.
