Rescue teams have temporarily halted their search for a potentially missing girl, pending more concrete evidence confirming someone is indeed unaccounted for.
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) was called out at around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday to the mouth of Mission Creek.
There were reports a young woman wearing a dark blue shirt and dark shorts was seen jumping off the Casorso and Swamp Road bridge.
It’s not known if she went in the water, but some reports said she did and never came back up, according to a social media post from COSAR.
Teams staged at Truswell Park and searched the creek banks. A boat was sent into Okanagan Lake and a helicopter was dispatched to search from the sky.
However, the hunt was called off later in the night after yielding no evidence.
The fast-moving creek, swollen with spring runoff, added complexity to the search, COSAR said.
Teams are now waiting for a missing persons report to be filed or for the girl who was spotted on the bridge to come forward and identify herself if she is safe.
