Date set for opening of delayed Bertram Street overpass

Following multiple delays, including issues with an unqualified railing installer, the Bertram Street Overpass is now set to officially open in early June.

The public is invited to be among the first to walk or roll over the multiuse pathway when officials christen the overpass on June 6 at 10 a.m.

The $12 million connection is a key piece of city’s growing active transportation corridor to connect downtown to neighbourhoods south of Highway 97.

A portion of work on the overpass had to be redone after a company that was sub-contacted to do work on the metal safety railings was not certified to do the work.

The railings had to be rebuilt and recertified.

The project, originally scheduled for completion in December 2024, has faced prior delays.

Issues with utility relocation and accessing the bridge terminus and connection points pushed the opening.
