It turns out no one fell or jumped into Mission Creek.
Kelowna RCMP have come to that conclusion after a significant police response and thorough investigation.
The entire ordeal stemmed from a misunderstanding.
Two athletic youths were running competitively along the Mission Creek Greenway near the reported area. Their father contacted police to confirm his daughters, matching the description of the reported individual, had jumped off a bridge onto the trail below as part of their run. Both are safe at home.
The RCMP extended their gratitude to the witnesses who first reported the incident, as well as to the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) team for their dedicated efforts over the last two days.
Police emphasized the seriousness of the search, which involved multiple resources, including foot patrols, police boats, drones, and the RCMP helicopter conducting both daytime and nighttime operations.
The RCMP also issued a reminder to the public to exercise caution when spending time outdoors, especially near waterways.
With spring runoff raising water levels and strengthening currents, creeks and rivers pose serious risks at this time of year.
