The City of Penticton is making important changes to the waste collection process. Starting Monday, June 30, residents can expect to see one truck collect their curbside garbage and another truck will collect their recycling or yard waste on their day of collection.
This change in service from Waste Connections of Canada will improve service efficiency and help reduce costly cross-contamination between waste streams, as the trucks have switched from the previous split-body models, which were able to pick up garbage and recycling or yard waste in one vehicle, to single-packer trucks, meaning each truck only collects one type of waste. This will also allow for more accurate and efficient sorting of waste.
Please note trucks will arrive at separate, rolling times that may vary significantly from your previous collection times as they make their way throughout the community. On your scheduled collection day, carts must be placed to the curb by 7 a.m. to ensure pick up, noting that carts will no longer be collected in tandem, and that late placements will result in missed pickup.
These updates are part of a broader strategy to streamline collection routes, reduce fuel consumption, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, helping to create a cleaner and more sustainable Penticton.
