The City of Penticton has completed its Sports & Recreation Needs Assessment, a comprehensive study that has been more than a year in the making. This extensive process, which began in May 2024, has involved significant input from user groups, the public, and key stakeholders to ensure a thorough understanding of the community’s sports and recreation needs now and into the future
“We are pleased to have completed this in-depth analysis, which reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of our community,” says Kelsey Johnson, general manager of community services. “The input from user groups and the public has been invaluable in shaping our strategies and recommendations. We look forward to working together to implement these plans and enhance our sports and recreation facilities for everyone in Penticton.”
Throughout the project, regular updates were provided to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) and City Council, ensuring continuous feedback and alignment with community expectations.
The final report highlights key strategies and recommendations to guide service provision and future investment in sports and recreation amenities in Penticton.
Key findings of the assessment include:
• Indoor Facilities: Recommendations for the renewal or replacement of aging arenas, sustaining curling facilities, and exploring options for new multi-use sports facilities.
• Outdoor Facilities: The addition of high-quality sports fields, development of a ball diamond hub, and renewal plans for court surfaces.
• Specialty Amenities: Consideration for new amenities such as an indoor climbing wall and walking/running track.
The City invites the community to review the final report and provide feedback through the Shape Your City website. Themes of the feedback will be included in the final study as an appendix, ensuring that the community’s voice continues to shape the future of sports and recreation in Penticton.
