Water cooling stations coming to Penticton’s Gyro Park

Gyro Park in downtown Penticton will soon be home to a permanent public cooling station, providing mists of water for people of all ages to refresh on hot days.

The cooling hub includes an accessible walkway, with misters that double as decorative solar lights by night. It’s designed for comfort and community and offers a refreshing break from the heat, while serving as a gathering space for everyone.

Each mister will be individually triggered by an activation button, set on a timer. Construction will begin in mid-July, with the site to be blocked off during installation.

This new infrastructure is brought to you in part by a $173,000 UBCM Disaster Risk Reduction – Climate Adaptation Grant, with funds also going toward a temporary misting station, which has been added to the City’s Quench Buggy, a water bottle fill station trailer which can be moved to events and parks as needed.

This initiative is part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to foster a vibrant, accessible community that adapts to climate change and reduces health risks during extreme heat events.
