The Central Okanagan Board of Education congratulated Kevin Kaardal, Superintendent of Schools/CEO on his retirement after 10 years in Central Okanagan Public Schools and 40 years in education and presented him with a gift.

The Superintendent of Schools/CEO provided an overview of the 2024/2025 school year identifying student achievements, special events, and business involving the Board of Education. 2. Superintendent of Schools/CEO Report on Student Achievement 2025
Presenter: Kevin Kaardal, Superintendent of Schools/CEO
The Superintendent of Schools/CEO provided a PowerPoint presentation on student achievements. The Superintendent of Schools/CEO Report on Student Achievement 2025 is available on the Central Okanagan Public Schools website at www.sd23.bc.ca under Publications.

Action Items
1. Approval of School Community Student Learning Plans for the 2025/2026 School Year
The Board of Education approved the School Community Student Learning Plans for the 2025/2026 school year.

2. Equity in Action Agreement for Truth and Reconciliation 2025-2030
The Board of Education approved the Equity in Action Agreement for Truth and Reconciliation 2025-2030.

3. Setting Regular Board Meeting Dates and Times
In the 2025/2026 school year, regular Public Board Meetings will be conducted once per month, commencing at 6:00 pm (with the exception of September and June, where there will be two meetings per month). Also, in the 2025/2026 school year, regular Incamera Board Meetings will be conducted once per month, commencing at 3:30 pm (with the exception of September and June, where there will be two meetings per month).

4. Setting Regular Board Standing Committee Meeting Dates and Times
A schedule for regular Board Standing Committee dates and times was approved.

5. 2025/2026 Annual Budget Bylaw
The Board of Education gave first, second, third readings and adopted School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan) Annual Budget Bylaw for the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 in the amount of $381,087,979.

6. Multi-Year Financial Plan (2025/2026 to 2027/2028)
The Board of Education approved the Multi-Year Financial Plan (2025/2026 to 2027/2028).

7. Review of Policy 162 – Financial Planning and Reporting
The Board of Education affirmed Policy 162 – Financial Planning and Reporting.

The Board of Education congratulated the COPVPA Executive for the 2025/2026 school year.

Advocacy
• The Board of Education recently met with the City of Kelowna Mayor and Council to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Items of Special Mention
The Board Chair, Trustees and the Superintendent of Schools/CEO, spoke of the following:
– Attendance at various meetings and events throughout the District, including Indigenous Education Blanketing Ceremonies, end of the school year assemblies/celebrations, Graduation Ceremonies, Awards and Scholarship celebrations.
– The Superintendent of Schools/CEO recently attended an event to celebrate 20 years of success at UBC Okanagan.
– The Superintendent of Schools/CEO confirmed that Yvonne Hildebrandt, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent, will be leaving the District after over 35 years of service.
