The ribbon has been officially cut on the newly revitalized Waterfront Park stage. More than just a renovation, this $1.8 million project, supported by a nearly $1 million Destination Development grant from the Province of British Columbia, is an investment in Kelownaâs cultural life, economic vibrancy, and environmental goals.
âKelowna is a hub for culture, entertainment, and world-class events,â said Mayor Tom Dyas. âThe revitalized Waterfront Park stage will provide a vibrant space for concerts, festivals, and community celebrations. This investment creates more opportunities for residents and families to come together, boosts our local economy, and offers another reason for people to visit and experience Kelowna.â
With input from external event groups and internal staff who deliver community programming, the project replaced the aging Waterfront Island Stage with a low-maintenance, modern structure that features upgraded electrical systems and event lighting, a canopy, and improved accessibility along with increased capacity for events. The revitalization will reduce emissions and maintenance needs while enhancing community events, economic development and tourism.
âCongratulations to the City of Kelowna on the reopening of the Waterfront Island Stage â a stunning space that brings people together through arts, culture, and community celebrationâ, said Spencer Chandra Herbert, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. âOur government is proud to invest in community-building projects like this that strengthen Canadian arts and culture, grow our tourism economy, and create lasting memories for all.â
The stage is now equipped to host a diverse array of events, ranging from intimate concerts to larger scale festivals. To learn more about this project and others, visit www.kelowna.ca/capitalprojects.
