It has long been a dangerous stretch of highway, particularly during the winter months. From mudslides to wildfires and everything in between driving Westside road is not for the faint of heart. Which is why West Kelowna-Peachland MLA Macklin McCall decided to host a town hall meeting earlier this week to allow residents on the west side to voice their concerns and questions over the issue.
According to McCall the last time any improvements have been done to the highway was nine years ago. Residents have long complained about the road, its twists and turns , its pot holes, and a general lack of maintenance which is why many of them attended the session held Wednesday at the Killiney Beach Community Hall .
“There are thousands of people that live along that road . They don’t work there. There’s no businesses, no grocery stores, no schools ” said McCall on AM1150’s Early Edition Friday . ” School buses full of kids every single day need to drive that route all the way into school in West Kelowna . It’s an hour and a half everyday on this road with these conditions all year long ”
McCall is hoping to get an audience with Minister of Transportation Mike Farnworth when he returns to Victoria later this month to present the Westside resident’s concerns about their highway .
