The playoff-bound Kelowna Rockets closed out the WHL regular season last night and still have no idea who their first-round playoff opponent will be.
That will be determined later today as the Spokane Chiefs play the Seattle Thunderbirds. A win or an overtime loss for the Chiefs would mean a 5th-place finish in the Conference and a playoff date with the Rockets. A Chiefs loss in regulation would mean the Rockets would play the Kamloops Blazers in the first round.
The Rockets wrapped up the regular season Saturday night at Prospera Place with a less-than-impressive 5-0 loss to the Penticton Vees, as the Vees swept the weekend home-and-home series.
Kelowna did receive some good news this weekend, though. The Lethbridge Hurricanes finished dead last in the WHL standings, which means the Rockets have a great chance to pick first overall in this spring’s WHL draft. The Rockets acquired the Canes first-round selection in a trade last year that saw defenceman Caden Price sent to Lethbridge.
