Thompson Okanagan Tourism Information spot reopens after rennovation

Travellers along Highway 97C (Connector) will be greeted by a dramatically reimagined welcome as the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Inspiration Centre reopens following a major renovation.

Changes to the site include expanded accessibility, increased partnerships with the Syilx, Nlaka’pamux and Secwépemc peoples, and a more welcoming and inclusive arrival experience.

The most visible change is a new glass entry pavilion capped with a living roof, paired with a modernized facade and new siding. The pavilion expands the centre’s footprint, floods the interior with natural light and creates a more welcoming and memorable arrival experience for the thousands of travellers who pass through each season.

The centre at 3960 Highway 97C (Connector) is owned and operated by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association.

“This is the moment travellers realize they have arrived in the Thompson Okanagan Region and one of the gateways into the Iconic Valleys and Vineyards,” said Ellen Walker-Matthews, CEO of TOTA. “We wanted that first impression to feel welcoming, accessible and grounded in the stories and people of this place. We are proud to continue evolving the Centre to honour the land, the people, and the diverse experiences that make this region so unique. This renovation creates a welcoming experience that reflects the beauty, adventure and culture that the region’s visitors are about to explore.”

TOTA said the renovation reflects collaboration with Westbank First Nation and the Sncəwips Heritage Museum. A new art installation by Syilx Okanagan artist Coralee Miller is on display for visitors.

Other new features include an Indigenous accessible garden space, retail displays, brochure shelving and barrier-free design throughout. TOTA said the project builds on recent sustainability investments, including solar panels, EV charging stations, a universal washroom and expanded outdoor space with a lakeview deck and pergola.

Visitors are invited to enjoy panoramic views of Okanagan Lake and experience the renewed centre. Free Wi-Fi, accessible indoor washrooms, EV charging, and daytime RV and bus parking are available at the site. Tourism visitor information counsellors are on site to help travellers plan their route through the Thompson Okanagan.
