West Kelowna RCMP are asking the public for any information on a historical sexual assault at Big White Ski Resort.
RCMP were notified of an aggravated sexual assault on December 27, 2002, involving a 19-year-old woman from Australia who worked in the area. The victim sustained severe injuries.
The male suspect fled on foot and was not identified, despite an extensive investigation. He was described as having brown hair and wearing a yellow jacket, or a jacket with yellow on it.
Police are re-examining the case after a recent file review.
Constable Ash Puri, West Kelowna RCMP Media Relations Officer, says “Advancements in investigative techniques have significantly enhanced our ability to revisit and progress historical investigations.” Puri also notes, “We remain committed to pursuing all available leads, and we are hopeful that someone may come forward with information that could assist in identifying the suspect.”
Investigators are now reaching out to the public for any new information and inviting witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information can contact Corporal Brent Lane of the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880. The reference file number is 2002-58983.
