Weekend fire in West Kelowna Suspected to be accidental, electrical caused

West Kelowna experienced another fire incident over the weekend after the fire response team responded to a brush fire at the base of a power pole near Dobbin Road and Elliott Road.

Fire crews determined that the fire posed an immediate risk due to its proximity to a gas station and had also set a power pole ablaze containing multiple live electrical wires.

Crews secured the area as BC Hydro disconnected the power so firefighters could safely knock the fire down.

West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund said the fire is believed to be accidental and caused by electrical issues, according to witness statements.
