KELOWNA, B.C. — The City of Kelowna says temporary road closures and traffic disruptions will take place in several parts of the city for events associated with the 2026 BC Summer Games.
Closures will affect downtown Kelowna, Rutland and the Sarsons Beach area today (July 23, 2026) through July 26 as athletes and spectators take part in opening ceremonies and competitions.
Water Street, between Sunset Drive and the Prospera Place parking lot, will be closed from approximately 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, to allow more than 3,000 participants to safely cross from Prospera Place to Waterfront Park for the Games’ opening ceremonies. Transit users can also expect impacts at the Water Street bus stop near Cawston Avenue.
In Rutland, Centennial Park and part of the adjacent Roxby Road parking lot will be closed on July 24 and 25 for athlete events. The playground will remain open to the public.
The BC Summer Games triathlon, scheduled for July 24 to 26, will result in intermittent road closures and traffic disruptions around Sarsons Beach Park and neighbouring streets. City officials say access to local neighbourhood roads will remain available when safe, with marshals opening and closing barricades as races progress. Affected roads include Sarsons Road, Swaisland Road, portions of Eldorado Road, Barkley Road, Hobson Crescent, Pinegrove Road, Walker Road and Lakeland Road. Closures are expected during designated race times on all three competition days. Parking lots at Sarsons Beach Park and the Sarsons Activity Centre will also be closed during competition periods and will reopen once racing concludes each day.

The city is advising motorists to use caution, watch for athletes and volunteers, and allow extra travel time when travelling through affected areas.
