The evacuation alert for 507 properties in La Casa has been lifted.
The alert was issued Saturday afternoon after an out-of-control wildfire sparked near Fintry.
In a news release, Central Okanagan Emergency Management said, “Although the wildfire remains classified as out of control, significant progress has been made by firefighting crews in reducing fire activity and protecting the area.”
The BC Wildfire Service says the fire has shown limited growth since reaching 5.18 hectares, with no spotting or outward fire spread reported as of Sunday morning.
“Firefighters have re-established a secure perimeter around the wildfire,” Central Okanagan Emergency Management said. “Crews will continue suppression efforts today, focusing on extinguishing remaining areas of heat.”
About 20 firefighters and a helicopter are responding to the wildfire.
Skimmer aircraft and helicopters have been using water from Okanagan Lake to fight the fire. The BC Wildfire Service is asking boaters to stay clear of the area while aircraft are operating to ensure public and responder safety and avoid interfering with suppression efforts.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Yukon Protective Services, Alberta Wildfire and Mexico are expected to arrive in Canada in the coming days to help battle wildfires across the province.
