Organizers of Kelowna Made, set to take place August 14-16 in City Park, have made the decision to cancel the event. Due to ongoing wildfires affecting neighbouring communities, high-risk air quality conditions, participant cancellations and the need to avoid drawing on already stretched emergency resources, Organizers say the decision to cancel was made to prioritize the safety of volunteers, vendors, performers and residents.
“This is incredibly disappointing for everyone who has worked so hard to plan and participate in Kelowna Made,” said Mayor Tom Dyas. “We know residents, visitors, vendors, performers and community partners were looking forward to celebrating together this weekend. However, given the current circumstances, prioritizing community safety and respecting the demands being placed on emergency resources is the right decision.”
The City of Kelowna thanked everyone who helped shape this year’s event that is no longer going to happen.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the current wildfire situation,” continues Dyas. “We are deeply grateful for the dedication and tireless efforts of firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel, support crews and volunteers working to protect and support communities across the region.”
