The final design for Aurora Park, a new neighbourhood park planned for an undeveloped site between Aurora Crescent and Froelich Road in Rutland, was revealed today by The City of Kelowna. The City says the design reflects feedback from residents and businesses gathered through public engagement in 2025.
“Aurora Park is the result of residents sharing what matters most to them. This new neighbourhood park will provide a safe and welcoming place to enjoy the outdoors close to home. As Rutland continues to grow, Aurora Park will become part of the community’s story, a place that residents can enjoy and make their own for years to come.” Said Mayor Tom Dyas.
The future park will include a small and large dog run area, open lawn space, accessible picnic seating, bicycle racks, shade trees and plantings, a playground, sloped play area, walking paths, a seating plaza and bench seating.

Safety features for the park will include improved lighting, clear sightlines, an open layout and active gathering spaces support Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and encourage regular community use.
“More than 330 residents shared feedback on the future park design,” said Joanne Krebs, Park and Landscape Planner with the City of Kelowna. “Safety, spaces for pets, play opportunities and connectivity emerged as key themes. Incorporating this feedback was important to ensure the park reflects community needs and provides valuable green space in Rutland Town Centre as the area continues to grow and develop.”
The project includes approximately more than $2 million in Development Cost Charge (DCC) funding. DCCs are fees collected from new development to help pay for infrastructure improvements.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027.
