Yet another candidate seeking a Kelowna City Council seat this fall. Susan Ames, often a vocal critic of city council, announced via Facebook on the weekend that she will attempt to fill one of at least four vacancies on council.
On her Facebook account Ames states “Our city is facing so many challenges that are being glossed over in the current growth/development frenzy. This is putting our environment and livability at risk and we can’t afford that. It is time to change direction at the council level to make Kelowna a better city for the (residents).”
Ames is one of five plaintiffs spearheading a court challenge against the city over the recent rezoning of the 18-hole Kelowna Springs Golf Course and is also President of the Abbott Street Heritage Conservation Area Society which opposes multi dwelling development in the Abbott corridor .
Ames ran unsuccessfully for a council seat in 2022, missing out on the eighth and final seat by 3,675 votes. There will at least four new councillors after the fall election with current councillors Luke Stack, Loyal Wooldridge , Charlie Hodge all choosing not to run in 2026 and Ron Cannan is giving his council seat to take a run at the Mayor’s chair. The civic elections around BC are set for October 17th
