The City of Kelowna unveiled plans for a $25 million renovation to modernize the Apple Bowl along Burtch Road.
The renovation intends to expand year-round community access to the field as well as the potential for Kelowna to be the home of a Canadian Premier League (CPL) club by 2028.
Marni Dicker, Executive Vice President, Infrastructure and Chief Legal Officer for the CPL said “Today’s announcement reflects our shared ambition to position Kelowna as a future home for the CPL. Strong ownership is another essential piece, and we look forward to engaging with potential ownership groups interested in the opportunity in Kelowna.”
Major changes at the stadium include a 3,000 seat grandstand on the east side of the field. Washrooms, locker rooms, concession and storage will also be improved. The City also says VIP suites will be added and improvements will be made to the west side grand stand and media area as well. A change to the playing surface will also be made, switching from natural grass to artificial turf. The City says the decision to use turf will reduce water use and maintenance costs and extend usage to year-round.

“We’ve seen firsthand what tournaments and major events can do for Kelowna,” said Mayor Tom Dyas. “In 2026 alone, these events are projected to generate more than $150 million in economic activity while bringing people together, supporting local businesses and showcasing our city on a larger stage. Today, we’re building on that success by advancing long-needed improvements to the Apple Bowl and taking an important step towards welcoming a Canadian Premier League team to Kelowna in 2028.”
The City says $11.5 million of the project will come from the 10-year capital plan for sport and recreation infrastructure. The remaining funds will be included in the 2027 Capital and Financial Plans for Council’s consideration.
The Apple Bowl was originally built in 1980 ahead of the B.C. Summer Games.
