The road work continues

Spring and Summer are supposedly  the domain of road construction but the City of Kelowna is extending  construction well into Fall.

Construction will begin early this month on the Hollywood Road extension that will create a new 2.1-kilometre connection between John Hindle Drive and Sexsmith Road.

“The Hollywood Road Extension is an important investment in Kelowna’s transportation network,” said Chad Williams, Senior Transportation Engineer. “As our community continues to grow, we need strategic transportation connections that improve mobility, strengthen network reliability, and support access to key employment, education, and commercial areas.”

This project will improve connections to the Gateway District, UBC Okanagan, Kelowna International Airport and the future Regional Transit Centre, supporting growth, expanded transit and reliable travel. In the long term, Hollywood Road will be developed into a continuous arterial corridor between Airport Way and Highway 97, as identified in the Transportation Master Plan.

During the first phase of construction, Hollywood Road and Academy Way will be closed between Sexsmith Road and Appaloosa Road. Pinto Road will remain open for local traffic and business access only. Access to Hollywood Road and Academy Way will be detoured via Arab Road and Appaloosa Road during this phase, using a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Sexsmith Road and Arab Road.
