West Kelowna Warriors drop nailbiter in overtime to Silverbacks

The West Kelowna Warriors concluded their preseason in Salmon Arm with an overtime loss to the Silverbacks.

It was the Silverbacks who struck first with a goal from Koen Senft to give the Silverbacks a 1-0 lead just 6:24 into the game. The Warriors responded with a pair of goals to tie the game as Pavel Goryachev scored 24 seconds later and Deke Davidson scored six minutes after that to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors held the lead until early in the third period when Jack Toogood scored for the Silverbacks to tie the game. The score remained deadlocked through the third and would head into overtime, however, a Warriors penalty late in the third when Jace Rask was called for tripping gave Salmon Arm a power play in overtime. The Silverbacks didn’t waste any time scoring the overtime winner as Mstislav Shipilin found the back of the net to give the Silverbacks a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Warriors will be back in action on Sept. 18 when they open their BCHL season by hosting the Cranbrook Bucks.
