The Kelowna Fire Department’s (KFD) annual Open House is set for Sunday, October 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. taking place downtown. As a result, Bernard Avenue from Water Street to the Sails as well as the south end of Mill Street, will be closed to vehicle traffic throughout the free family-friendly event.
Events will kick off with a pancake breakfast along with vehicle displays, games, kids’ activities, info booths, and even a rescue demo at 10:30 a.m.
All kinds of first responders and support agencies will be on-site including Kelowna Fire Department, Kelowna International Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Services, BC Ambulance Service, Central Okanagan Search & Rescue, as well as the City of Kelowna’s Bylaw Services and Community Safety Services Branch.
The Open House kicks-off Fire Prevention Week, an observance to help communities learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower”, focuses on the everyday device-charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.
