Fire crews respond to suspicious house fire

The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) responded to a structure fire in a residential fourplex around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, in the 500 block of Hein Rd.
When the first officer arrived, flames were already coming from multiple windows in the end unit of the fourplex.
Crews searched the building where two people were found unharmed. They were evacuated from the adjacent unit and Emergency Support Services is assisting the displaced residents with temporary accommodations.
KFD responded with 17 fire personnel and crews quickly extinguished the fire. Damage was limited to two of the four units and there were no injuries.
“KFD would like to remind residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms,” said Brad Pfenning, Kelowna Fire Department Captain, in a press release. “They do save lives.”
The fire is deemed suspicious in nature. Kelowna RCMP and KFD will be investigating on-scene today.
