Local organizations are teaming up for a one of a kind dining experience in support of the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
Fermented Dining and the Okanagan Chefs Association are bringing the second annual Fork and Spoon Gala to Kelowna on October 5th.
Co-organizers Cody Pollard and Tammie Watson were on AM1150's Early Edition on Thursday.
“There will be a silent auction, we've got music from the amazing Andrew Johns, we have the cocktail competition, the canapé competition, the nine course meal, and open bar,” said Pollard, Owner of Fermented Dining.
The cocktail and canapé competitions will feature 14 top chefs and four local bartenders, who will create dishes using only donated spirits and ingredients the Food Bank currently has in-house.
“You know, it will really showcase the type of food we get donated to us at the Central Okanagan Food Bank. I think there are some misconceptions about what that food might look like.
“We get a lot of really great produce and we get a lot of really nice meats that we can offer to community members who are in need of a helping hand,” said Tammie Watson, Interim Executive Director at the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
According to Watson, their client numbers are rising as more supportive housing becomes available in Kelowna.
“Now we have folks who have a physical address, which is one of our criteria, and so now, while we have all these great new buildings coming up, we also have a lot more people requiring services.”
