Plenty of snow bookended the 2017 calendar year in Kelowna, and the city's snow clearing budget is feeling it.
Each year, city staff allocate $1.7 million in funding for snow removal.
In many years, the budget has finished a few bucks over, or a few bucks under that mark, and evens out.
But final costs for 2017 are expected to hit close to $2 million, leaving a deficit between $200,000 and $300,000.
City staff say surpluses from years past are kept in a specific reserve fund, which will be used to pay out the snow clearing balance this year.
Heading into 2017, that snow reserve had over half a million dollars in it.
Officials say this is the first year in a long time that the budget has even come close to $2 million.
City Hall's 2018 budgets kicked in at the beginning of last week.
